My last post talked about improving clinical communications in corrections and mentioned the SBAR format. I thought I’d add a couple videos to give a poor example and one that is improved with the SBAR format.

If I were listening to this report, I”d be wondering when he was going to get to the point of the call. Always start out by saying why you are calling. S = Situation.
This is a longer video that gives an overview of the need for SBAR and some good and bad examples. Although this is hospital-based, consider how this would be at shift report in the infirmary or a physician call after an inmate with chest pain is brought to medical for evaluation.
